The flag of Suriname consists of five horizontal bands of green, white, red, white, and green. The red band is slightly larger than the others and contains a yellow five-pointed star in the center.
The green bands represent the country's agriculture and forests, while the white bands symbolize peace and unity among the different ethnic groups in Suriname. The red band represents progress and love, and the yellow star represents a golden future for the country.
The current flag was officially adopted on November 25, 1975, when Suriname gained independence from the Netherlands. It was designed by a group of Surinamese artists and remained unchanged since then.
